An innovation to reduce creases in marquees: with its new UltraSeam™ technology, Warema has succeeded in minimising irritating creases and printed patterns in marquee fabric. This special adhesive technique improves the appearance of the fabric when rolled up, thanks to the equal height of the material even in the area of the seam and the hem.

The innovative UltraSeam™ adhesive technique changes the future of the marquee. In the past, makers of marquees joined the individual lengths of cloth with an overlap seam. The lengths of fabric were laid over one another, and either sewn together with a double lock stitch or attached with adhesive tape. As a result of the doubling of the fabric along the seam, the marquee coils higher in this area, so that differences of tension can arise in the cloth. This often leads to the formation of wrinkles and creases, overextended or hanging side edges and unattractive honeycomb or fishbone patterns in the fabric.

Abutted, not folded
It’s a completely different situation with UltraSeam™ technology, which Warema will be using from now on in all its Terrea articulated arm and cassette marquees. By contrast with the sewing and bonding techniques standard today, the lengths of cloth are not folded over in this case but abutted together. In order to achieve a consistent marquee design, Warema first of all cuts the edges of the fabric. After that they are fixed on the lower side, using a single-sided adhesive tape with reinforcing fabric. This method reduces the coil diameter in the seam and hem area significantly. As a result the cloth between the seams also takes up some of the tension, which makes for a noticeable reduction of creasing and pattern formation.

‘As well as the improved coiling properties, UltraSeam™ also scores well in the visual department,’ says Claudia Kraus, Marquee Product Manager at Warema. ‘Instead of white thread we use an adhesive tape which is hardly visible, especially in sunlight, giving the marquee a unified appearance. The numerous advantages of the new UltraSeam™ technique will be available to our customers from now on in all Warema’s Terrea articulated arm and cassette marquees.’
