Following on from its external shaft venetian blinds and shaft roller shutter systems, Warema is expanding its solutions for sustainable integration into shafts and cover panels with a window awning that can be used in many different settings. Almost entirely prefabricated, it guarantees excellent system safety. Assembly is simple and cost-effective thanks to its self-supporting, pluggable design.
At the moment, window awnings used for sun shading are usually system products with a box. However, an enclosed box is not required in areas sheltered from the weather and can impede access during assembly and inspection. Connecting to the control cable proves awkward because the plug-and-socket connection must be accessible from below after assembly. The sun shading product is installed before the facade is plastered, exposing it to lots of dirt and dust. In addition, guide rail plastering is always a weak point when components are separated.
With its ‘shaft systems’, Warema is responding both to increasing cost pressure and the skills shortage in the building trade. Its new range of shaft awning systems offers awning units that are partially preassembled and can be easily inserted from below into pre-existing shafts, preinstalled cover panels and top-mounted boxes and brickwork. The system can be installed once the facade is complete, allowing components to be easily separated. Since the structure is designed to be self-supporting, it is also extremely simple to attach: unlike before, there is absolutely no need to align it with any existing fastening points.
Practical packaging
The shaft awning system is only delivered once the major construction work has been completed and dirt and dust are minimised. The individual parts are packed into space-saving oblong cartons and assembled on site, secured with screws, connected to the control cable and inserted into the shaft as a whole. The structure is supported by the two guide rails, which are linked together above the inspection cover. Ordering is simple – essentially, the only measurements required are the shaft depth and height and the size of the window. As the entire system is delivered as one, there’s no need to order individual parts, ensuring seamless and safe installation.
The perfect solution for every situation
Guide rails can be chosen from the entire window awning range, including the particularly wind-resistant easyZIP guidance, classic rail guidance or the markisolette awning with projection system. As usual, the double guide rail can be used to implement series-mounted units. Warema’s easyZIP guidance guarantees that the system will remain fully functional even with high wind loads. The shaft awning system is available in both large and small versions. Since the end rail can be completely retracted and closes flush with the inspection cover in front, the large version allows the awning to be integrated almost invisibly. The small version is recommended for small shafts or for installation beneath balconies, etc.
A wide variety
There are two sizes within these two versions. From a shaft depth of 100 mm, windows measuring up to around 3 x 3 metres can be perfectly shaded. For larger windows of up to around 4 x 4.5 metres, a somewhat larger version is offered that can be used from a shaft depth of 120 mm. Inspection covers can be ordered for all varieties that match the shaft depth so that the shaft is totally hidden from below. The cover can be removed in just a few quick motions so that the sun shading system can be easily maintained at all times. In large versions, the inspection cover is also a safe supporting surface for the plug-in connector.
Warema’s highly prefabricated shaft solutions have many advantages: they make measurement and ordering easy, offer outstanding system safety and reduce the effort required to coordinate different components. With its shaft awning system, Warema is bringing a streamlined and preassembled solution to the market, making it much easier to install awnings in pre-existing shafts. The self-supporting structure boosts functional reliability and makes assembly much more efficient and cost-effective. With this new product, Warema now has a strong portfolio of comparable solutions for shaft installation. Whether roller shutters, window awnings or external venetian blinds, they are available for all common shaft dimensions.
