Matter-certified. Brand-independent. Future-proof. Warema Xeenos: Matter-certified products for sun shading
Matter, the brand-independent smart home standard, is in increasing demand. As an industry pioneer, Warema has expanded its portfolio to include Xeenos, the Matter-certified products for the direct control of sun shading products. This innovative radio system can be easily integrated into various smart home environments, allowing solutions to be networked however necessary – both in new and retrofitted buildings.
Matter and Thread: the standard for brand-independent networking
As the first universal and certified smart home standard, Matter allows devices to be networked from any manufacturer. Whatever the smart home control system – Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Samsung SmartThings, IKEA Dirigera, etc. – sun shading, heating, lighting and safety features like entrance systems and cameras can all be controlled, regardless of the brand. Xeenos uses the Thread networking protocol for communication. In contrast to Matter products, this uses Wi-Fi to act as an energy-efficient mesh network, meaning that all devices both receive and pass on commands. This ensures extensive reach, stable connections and reliable communication, even across larger distances. Thread also provides a high level of safety and privacy through state-of-the-art encryption and local data processing independent of the cloud. Xeenos is commissioned via the Matter QR code, a quick, easy and secure solution. All the user has to do is scan the code using their smart home app.
Xeenos components: tailored to application and installation
Warema uses these technologies to offer a future-proof solution for automated sun shading. Whether awnings, roller shutters or external venetian blinds, Xeenos actuators allow the sun shading system to be operated intuitively and automated flexibly via an app or voice-activated assistant. Xeenos combines the advantages of Matter and Thread with a clear focus on simple integration, efficient control and practical application in smart homes. The Xeenos product portfolio covers various installation situations in new and existing buildings, offering the right solution for almost every need.
Xeenos UP actuators – unobtrusive integration in new and existing buildings
Xeenos UP actuators are available for roller blinds and awnings, and for external venetian blinds. They are designed to be installed in flush-mounted boxes and can be connected directly to switches or buttons. This makes them suitable for both new building projects and retrofitting, provided flush-mounted boxes can be installed. Functions such as motor current measurement support automatic run time adjustment and simplify commissioning.
Xeenos Plug actuators – easy external retrofitting
Xeenos Plug actuators come in two variants: roller shutters/awnings and external venetian blinds. They are installed as plug receivers directly between the building’s wiring and the sun shading motor and are intended for external use. Thanks to their robust design and the IP54 degree of protection, they can be retrofitted without interfering with the building’s structure or installing cables – a clear advantage for existing buildings in particular.
Xeenos Switch 2K UP actuator – switchable power consumers in Matter smart homes
Warema has also added the Xeenos Switch UP actuator to its portfolio, a solution to integrate switchable power consumers such as lights. The device is installed in a flush-mounted box and designed for loads with an output of up to 230 VA. The Xeenos Switch UP actuator also allows energy consumption to be recorded and displayed within the Matter central control unit. This means that the smart home’s functions can be extended beyond sun shading and makes it even more transparent to operate. Stefan Ruf, Product Owner for Radio Solutions at Warema, sums up the concept: “Through Xeenos, we are systematically incorporating the Matter smart home standard into sun shading automation for simple integration that encompasses all brands. This makes planning and installation much easier and offers users a future-proof system.”
Boosting user comfort: Warema and Maco – connected by Matter
The following practical example demonstrates how users can benefit from the Matter open smart home standard. In automated buildings, roller shutters and external venetian blinds are often controlled according to the time of day or dusk, without taking into account the current position of a window or door. Warema has collaborated with Maco, the leading provider of innovative hardware solutions, to tackle this problem within the Matter standard. The Matter “Sense by MACO” radio sensors detect whether windows and doors are open or closed and send this information to the Xeenos sun shading control system. The sun shading automatically remains open if a balcony or patio door is open, for example – a simple and effective way to prevent users from being locked outside. An intelligent connection, across all brands, that significantly increases everyday user comfort.
