Lightning strikes and the resulting overvoltage can cause serious damage to electrical sun shading and its control systems – with potentially wide-reaching consequences for a building’s operational safety. Warema has specially developed two solutions to effectively protect bus systems, drives and connected power consumers. They can be used in new buildings and retrofitted in existing structures, standardising protection even where requirements are complex.

Innovative overvoltage protection for weather stations: Warema Plug-in Protect
If lightning strikes above a weather station, the overvoltage can enter the building and seriously damage the on-site bus system. Warema Plug-in Protect is an innovative solution that specifically protects this sensitive interface against overvoltage, reducing the risk of damage. The Plug-in Protect can be easily integrated or retrofitted without any major installation outlay. It plugs into the designated prongs on the power supply unit of the Warema weather station; in the Omnexo bus system, it can be used with the Warema Weather station pro and Weather station move. In the KNX system, the overvoltage protection can be installed directly on the KNX secure sensor interface of the KNX secure Weather station pro. “With Warema Plug-in Protect, we have developed an innovative solution: pluggable, integrated overvoltage protection that can be easily retrofitted without unravelling the bus lines”, explains Rüdiger Dümig, Head of Product Management Smart Building Solutions at Warema.

Secure protection for sun shading drives: Warema protect plug receiver
In the event of a lightning strike, overvoltage can also enter a building via electrical sun shading systems. This would damage not only the sun shading itself, but also other power consumers and even sensitive IT systems. The protect plug receiver specifically minimises these risks. In the event of strong overvoltage, it cuts itself off safely to protect the system. For safety reasons, users will still be able to raise the sun shading. The next time the sun shading is used, an acoustic signal will inform the user that the plug receiver has been tripped and needs to be replaced. The protect plug receiver is installed directly on the sun shading and is suitable for all 230 V standard drives with a Hirschmann socket (STAK 3 / STAS 3). Plug & Play installation means it can be quickly retrofitted without the need to interfere with the wiring – ideal for new and existing buildings.

As part of a holistic protection concept, Warema Plug-in Protect and the Warema protect plug receiver offer standardised, retrofittable solutions to protect sun shading and control systems from overvoltage.

When lightning strikes, overvoltage can enter a building’s electrical sun shading systems via its weather station. Warema targets these risks with coordinated overvoltage protection solutions for control systems and drives.

Warema Plug-in Protect reliably protects the on-site bus system against overvoltage, which can enter a building via its weather station.

Ideal for the KNX secure Weather station pro with KNX secure sensor interface: Plug-in Protect supplements the system with pluggable overvoltage protection for the on-site bus system.

The Warema Weather station pro records relevant weather data for automated sun shading control and can be safeguarded against overvoltage using the power supply and Plug-in Protect.

The Warema Weather station move can be used in automated sun shading systems and can also be retrofitted with the power supply and Plug-in Protect overvoltage protection.

The Warema protect plug receiver reliably protects electrical sun shading systems against overvoltage and can be installed directly on the drive – also suitable for retrofitting.
