Whether for increased comfort, efficiency or sustainability, automated sun shading is truly in vogue. With the SolarKit by Warema, roller shutters and window awnings can be easily powered by an integrated solar cell via a programmed hand-held transmitter – with no need to connect to the power supply, open up a wall or install complex line routing. This makes the SolarKit an attractive option for retrofitting, particularly in renovations, with huge potential for specialised retailers and renovators. To ensure the system works optimally all year round, the solar panel must be positioned correctly. These practical tips are here to help.

For the SolarKit to achieve maximum performance, and to optimise battery charging, the panel needs as much direct light as possible. Ideally, it should face south with an unobstructed view of the sky and an irradiation angle of at least 60°. It could also face south-west, south-east, east or west, as long as it isn’t in the shadow of roof overhangs, trees or neighbouring facades. To ensure it isn’t placed somewhere shaded, for roller shutters, the panel can be easily installed either above or below a window or on a protruding part of the facade. Extension cables are available for greater flexibility.

Some locations are unsuitable because the SolarKit’s performance would be limited by several factors. Such locations include anywhere in which the panel would be in the shade, for example low-lying window reveals, large roof overhangs (such as on gable ends), beneath balconies or behind glass structures. Shadows cast by trees and neighbouring buildings can also reduce the energy yield. North-facing surfaces should also be avoided due to the shade. If a panel has to be installed on the north-facing side, it should have a completely unobstructed view of the sky to ensure it receives sufficient daylight.

Summary: Optimal positioning for maximum performance

A perfectly selected installation site allows the SolarKit by Warema to realise its full potential – simply and reliably.

The panel can also be installed on a balcony balustrade. Installed in a carefully selected and optimised position, the SolarKit can work seamlessly all year round.

The solar panel should not be installed anywhere that will be covered by trees or neighbouring buildings (for example) – this would make it extremely difficult for the battery to charge efficiently.
