Intelligent building automation is based on open standards such as KNX. The WMS radio system provides outstanding services for smart sun shading control in hospitality and in residential houses – particularly for outdoor solutions such as awnings and slat roofs. Warema is now bringing these two worlds together with its KNX converter WMS: specifically, the converter connects the KNX network to the WMS system. In future, it will also be possible to use KNX to control sun shading solutions connected to the radio system. Users will be able to enjoy the benefits of both communication systems.

As an open, wired fieldbus system, KNX allows a building to be operated more conveniently, safely and efficiently. Now, WMS components can also be integrated into this concept with their usual scope of functions. Users can expand an existing KNX system to include sun shading technology with no major installation outlay. Building automation commands are transmitted via KNX to the KNX converter WMS and then passed on to the WMS receivers in the sun shading solution via radio.

This solution is particularly suitable for commercial operations such as restaurants, hotels and office buildings. If products such as slat roofs and patio or pergola awnings from Warema are used outdoors with WMS control, they can be easily integrated into the building controls. Users can then use the convenient KNX controls to determine that, for example, the outdoor living products are to be opened and closed automatically according to specific usage scenarios or weather conditions. Position feedback and status information can also be transmitted from WMS to KNX and used in a building control system. Sun shading solutions – including features such as integrated LEDS – can also be operated via the WMS hand-held transmitter or the WMS WebControl pro app. In addition, the WMS sensors can ensure local automation. In this case, the KNX control system serves as a superordinate building control system.

Another advantage is that outdoor sun shading is often not installed until the building has been constructed. Thanks to the KNX connection, no more cables have to be laid afterwards because the sun shading solutions can be easily integrated via radio using the KNX converter WMS. This is also important for the owners of residential buildings, where KNX is also used to a greater degree.

Der KNX converter WMS bringt KNX und WMS zusammen. Befehle aus der Gebäudeautomation werden an den converter übertragen und von dort per Funk an die WMS Empfänger weitergeleitet.

Parallel to the KNX system, the KNX converter WMS allows sun shading solutions to be easily operated via the WMS WebControl pro app.
